KATRA, Sept 3: In a major humanitarian initiative, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) has extended relief to more than 1,000 families affected by recent heavy rains and landslides in Katra and other parts of Reasi and Udhampur districts. The initiative has been undertaken on the directions of Manoj Sinha, Lt Governor of J&K and Chairman of SMVDSB.
To ensure timely support, the Board initially handed over relief material for 400 families to the District Administration, Reasi. The supplies include dry ration kits, utensils, blankets, medicines, buckets, tarpaulin and tents, aimed at meeting the immediate needs of the affected population.
Acting on a request from the district administration, families from Purana Daroor village, whose houses were severely damaged, have been temporarily shifted to Shakti Bhawan at the Shrine Board’s Niharika Complex in Katra for their safety and well-being.
Sachin Kumar Vaishya, Chief Executive Officer of SMVDSB, reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to extend comprehensive support in coordination with the District administration. He said the Shrine Board stands with the local community in times of crisis and will continue to provide necessary assistance for the welfare of affected families.
The Shrine Board has previously undertaken several relief measures during emergencies, including large-scale aid during the COVID-19 pandemic and earlier natural calamities, reflecting its sustained commitment to community service.
