Schools to remain closed today

JAMMU, Aug 31: Due to inclement weather conditions, Directorate of School Education Jammu has ordered further closure of all Government and private schools across Jammu division on September 1.
“Keeping in view the incessant rains and landslides in hilly areas and in order to ensure the safety of students and staff, it is hereby ordered that all Government and private schools across Jammu Division shall continue to remain closed on September 1, (Monday),” read the order.

In view of the prevailing weather conditions, the J&K Board of School Education has also ordered postponement of the examinations of class 10th and 11th , which were scheduled to be held on September 1, 2025.
BOSE said that fresh dates for the postponed exams will be notified separately.
Meanwhile, Directorate of School Education Jammu has directed all Chief Education Officers and Heads of Institutions in Jammu Division to ensure the structural safety of all school buildings in view of the continuous heavy rains, landslides in hilly areas and flood like situation.
The CEOs and Heads of Institutions have been instructed to immediately take up the matter with the Public Works (R&B) Department and ensure that a comprehensive safety audit of all Government school buildings under their jurisdiction is carried out on priority.
“Safety certificates must be obtained from the competent authorities immediately and proceed accordingly. You are further instructed to personally monitor the process and ensure strict compliance,” read the formal communiqué, issued by Personnal Officer, DSEJ, with a warning that any lapse in this regard shall be viewed seriously.
Pertinent to mention that DSEJ had issued an order on September 29, 2025, directing all CEOs for a systematic, time-bound and verifiable safety audit of schools buildings.
