Declare Jammu floods a national calamity: Khajuria

UDHAMPUR, Aug 31: Senior political leader from Udhampur, Pawan Khajuria today demanded that the recent cloudbursts and flash floods in Jammu be declared a national calamity and the people affected be given adequate compensation.
In a statement issued here, he made an appeal to Union Home Minister, Amit Shah in this regard seeking his immediate intervention in the matter.
He said the Udhampur district has suffered a heavy loss in the flash floods and many residential houses were totally washed away while hundreds of shops were also submerged in five to six feet deep flood water and the entire goods lying in them were perished putting the shopkeepers to heavy loss.
He said the district administration at its level is trying best to help the people but under limited resources it is unable to provide help to them. He demanded a special package be given so that the people are paid the adequate compensation to overcome the losses.
He expressed the hope that Union Home Minister will take personnel interest in this regard and announce a special package for the flood victims of the district Udhampur.
