JAMMU, Aug 31: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) today called for a comprehensive relief and rehabilitation package for victims of recent cloudbursts and flash floods across the Jammu region.
In a meeting chaired by Jammu Provincial President Advocate Rattan Lal Gupta, party leaders expressed deep concern over the widespread damage to lives, property, crops, livestock, and infrastructure caused by the unprecedented weather events.
Gupta said that ex-gratia payments alone would not be sufficient and urged the Union Territory administration and the Centre to sanction substantial financial assistance for affected families.
He also stressed the need for a long-term mitigation plan to tackle recurrent floods and cloudbursts, alongside timely disbursement of relief, transparent damage assessment, and swift restoration of essential services.
The JKNC appealed to civil society organizations to support victims during this humanitarian crisis and reaffirmed its commitment to raising the concerns of affected communities until adequate compensation and rehabilitation measures are implemented.
