JAMMU, Aug 29: The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Jammu, concluded a three-day workshop on “Environmental Sustainability and Cultural Awareness” for masters, teachers and lecturers from all ten districts of Jammu Division.
Organized under the mentorship of Shantmanu, Director SCERT, J&K, and guidance of Prof Sindhu Kapoor, Joint Director, JKSCERT Jammu, the workshop focused on integrating eco-cultural values into education in line with NEP-2020 and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The inaugural ceremony was graced by chief guest O P Vidyarthi (Retd IFS & Sahitya Akademi Awardee), who emphasized reviving traditional practices for addressing environmental challenges.
Prof Sindhu Kapoor highlighted the role of teacher preparedness, while resource experts including Dr Neeraj Sharma (University of Jammu) and Rajesh Hali (Senior Academic Officer) advocated for experiential learning, local knowledge integration, and community engagement in sustainable education. The session concluded with a vote of thanks from Farhat Jahan, Academic Officer & Workshop Coordinator.
The workshop moved beyond awareness to action, with teachers preparing school-level plans such as eco-friendly campuses, green clubs, cultural heritage projects and vocational training in sustainable crafts. The valedictory session stressed collective environmental responsibility and readiness of educators to implement these initiatives in their schools and communities.
The organizing team included Dr Meenakshi Chandan (Associate Coordinator), Dr Seema Zakir (Moderator), Rukhsana Kousar, Sabha Rasheed, Pooja Sharma, Meena Thakur, Dr Sunita Sharma, and Monica Sharma, whose efforts ensured the initiative’s success.
