‘NC Govt failed to take pre-emptive measures’

JAMMU, Aug 29: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today lambasted Omar Abdullah Government for not taking pre-emptive measures despite the warning by Weather Department to protect the people from recent natural disaster in Jammu and Kashmir UT.
Talking to reporters here, today, BJP chief spokesperson, Sunil Sethi, along with other two spokespersons Arun Gupta and Dr Abhijeet Jasrotia, said the Omar Abdullah’s ministers are NPA (Non Performing Assets). He, while questioning the function of the NC Government asked “What preparedness it had made to tide over the crisis in the UT when weather department had already given warning of heavy rains why the Government did not took measures for safety of the people”.
He, while taking serious exception to Dy CM’s statement said that during last one year what action he took to stop illegal mining in the UT. Sethi alleged that on behest of Chief Minister, the Dy CM is making irrelevant statements.
Demanding a high level probe into collapse of fourth bridge over river Tawi, Sethi said the bridge which was constructed over a decade back could not resist the rain. The Government should order a thorough probe and fix responsibility why the bridge could not resist the rain and take action against the officers and others involved.
The BJP leader alleged that the Omar Abdullah is responsible for the sufferings of the people of J&K. He said already cloudburst had created lot of devastation in Kishtwar, later Kathua and Doda. There was a warning from Weather Department but the Government did not make any preparedness to face the situation and crisis created by natural calamity.
Sethi said that the people of J&K had elected Chief Minister, to perform with the hope that the Government will work to ease the problems of people. But he (CM) is talkative only while the performance of his Government is totally abysmal.
He said does the illegal mining has not any role in collapse of bridges and washing away of river embankments, the Dy CM should answer this.
He urged the Omar Abdullah led Government to dedicate itself from today in service of people instead of blaming others. Sethi said BJP is with people and it will stand with them in every thick and thin.
The BJP chief spokesperson said what measures were taken through social welfare Department for safety of the people. The shelters for the cloudburst and flood victims were not created and people were left to fend for themselves, he added.
