Political parties demand compensation for flood hit people, next kin of deceased

JAMMU, Aug 28: Leaders of various political parties cutting across their party lines have demanded compensation to flood hit people of J&K and restoration of essential services in affected areas.
Senior BJP leader and former Minister, Bali Bhagat expressed deep condolences over the tragic loss of lives in Jammu and Kashmir caused by heavy rains, flash floods and the recent landslide on the Vaishno Devi Yatra route. Extending heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved families, Bhagat said the calamities have caused untold suffering and disruption across the Union Territory, affecting thousands of residents, pilgrims and local communities.
In his statement, Bhagat demanded that the Government should announce adequate compensation without delay, granting a special relief package under natural calamity provisions and the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) for Jammu and Kashmir. He stressed that immediate financial assistance is crucial for families who have lost loved ones, homes, or livelihoods due to the unprecedented rains and landslides.
Apni Party general secretary. Vijay Bakaya while expressing his shock and grief over the loss of precious lives in cloud bursts and flash floods demanded that Government should pay ex-gratia to affected people without delay. He also demanded restoration of water and electric supply besides renovation of roads in flood hit areas so that the problems of people are eased.
Apni Party leaders led by its provincial president, Jammu, and former Minister, Manjit Singh today visited the flood hit areas in Jammu’s Gujjar Nagar, Jogi Gate Cremation Ground and Ramgarh in Samba where he met the affected families, assuring them all possible support. He urged the Government to release compensation for them without delay.
The former Minister, was accompanied by provincial secretary, Ajaz Kazmi, senior leader Bodh Raj Bhagat, Social Media Incharge Jammu, province, Vaibhav Mattoo, provincial joint secretary, Mohd Asif and others when they visited the flood hit Gujjar Nagar residents in Jammu. During their visit, the Apni Party leaders met the affected families, and reviewed the ground situation.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Executive member, Raman Suri today urged the authorities to fix responsibility for the loss of lives and property in the recent floods and landslides across Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing the need for proactive measures to prevent such tragedies in the future. The safety of devotees and tourists has to be made mandatory, and policy makers will also have to take responsibility for it.
Shiv Sena (UBT) Jammu-Kashmir unit has demanded financial aid to the affected people due to the terrible natural disaster, immediate restoration of electricity supply which has come to a standstill in the areas and repair of roads and drains.
Shiv Sainiks gathered under the leadership of party State chief Manish Sahni today staged a symbolic silent protest regarding these demands.
Sahni said that natural disasters have caused great loss of life and property. The Government should immediately assess the economic loss and provide relief to the affected people by giving them proper compensation.
President of the National Mazdoor Conference (NMC), Subash Shastri urged the Government to immediately provide ex-gratia to the next of kin of those killed and the injured in J&K flash floods and landslides.
In a statement issued here, Shastri expressed serious concern over the unprecedented floods that have hit whole Jammu region and conveyed his sympathies to the people particularly working class.
Expressing shock over the calamities that have hit both the regions, Shastri has hoped that the Central Government would extend all necessary support to deal with the crisis.
Sunil Dimple, president Mission Statehood Jammu Kashmir held a protest against the Government for not stopping the Vaishno Devi yatra in spite of red alert announced by the Meteorology Department. Large number of women, residents, traders of Gujjar Nagar, Poonch House, Belicharana, Talab Tillo, Shivalik Puram and others flood hit areas joined the protest.
Addressing protests, Sunil Dimple said the all household goods, animals were washed away and water has touched even second floors of the houses and destroyed all utensils, ration, medicines, goods, furniture, refrigerators, jewellery and filled the houses, rooms with the mud.
