However, reports said that the controversy erupted after a video surfaced on social media showing protests by some students alleging that question paper was leaked before the completion of the test.
On the other hand, JKSSB has clarified that the exam was cancelled as some candidates indulged in unruly behaviour, including snatching of Question Papers from invigilators and fellow candidates, creating ruckus inside and outside the examination halls at Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Kothi Bagh, Srinagar.
“The OMR based Written Examination for the posts of Junior Engineer (Electrical), advertised vide Notification No. 02 of 2025 dated 27.02.2025, was scheduled to be held on 24.08.2025 from 11:00 AM to 01:00 PM at 35 examination venues across Jammu and Srinagar districts. On the morning of the day of examination, heavy rainfall was witnessed in Jammu district, which caused severe waterlogging at several locations, including some examination venues.
In addition, landslides blocked the routes leading to Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Kandoli Nagrota, preventing a number of candidates from reaching the Examination Centre. The said educational institution was a venue for examination for 432 candidates. Taking cognizance of these weather-related exigencies as well as the grievances projected by the candidates and in order to provide relief to the genuine candidates, the Board decided to reschedule the examination timings from 11:00 AM – 01:00 PM to 12:00 Noon – 02:00 PM. The revised timings were duly communicated to all Centre Superintendents for implementation, and the notification in this regard was simultaneously flashed on the official website of the JKSSB.
The examination started at 12:00 Noon and was conducted smoothly at 34 venues. However, at Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Kothi Bagh, Srinagar, (Venue with 644 candidates), some candidates agitated the delay in the timings of the conduct of the examination. Despite clearing the apprehensions of the candidates by the officers/officials on duty, some of the candidates indulged in unruly behaviour, including snatching of Question Papers from invigilators and fellow candidates, creating ruckus inside and outside the examination halls. The matter was immediately placed in an extra-ordinary Board meeting and after due deliberations and considering all the aspects, the Board decided to cancel the Examination for these posts of Junior Engineer (Electrical) held today on 24.08.2025,” explained the statement, adding that the schedule for holding the examination for these posts afresh shall be notified in due course of time.
