JAMMU, Aug 23: The Food Safety Wing of the Drug and Food Control Organization (DFCO) J&K today seized a huge consignment of adulterated cheese and expired mustard oil during a raid on the outskirts of Jammu city.
Deputy Commissioner Food Safety Jammu, Madan Magotra, informed Excelsior that the action followed a tip-off from Government Railway Police (GRP) Jammu regarding the arrival of a suspicious consignment of cheese from Ambala.
He said, acting swiftly, a team of Food Safety Inspectors led by himself reached Jammu Railway Station and discreetly followed the consignment to its destination-a godown in Babliana area of Gangyal.
Along with police, the team raided the premises and recovered 2,100 kg (21 quintals) of adulterated ‘paneer’ belonging to Shri Balaji Trading Company, Jammu. In addition, 78 tins of Trishool brand mustard oil, which had expired in 2023, were also seized.
Officials said the godown was not registered for storing food items. “Except for a few labourers, no person was found present inside the premises at the time of the raid. The seized material was tested in the mobile testing laboratory,” an official spokesperson added.
Magotra said legal proceedings have been initiated against the offenders. He also urged the public to share information about such violations, warning that those “playing with the health of the masses” would be dealt with strictly under law.
