JAMMU, Aug 13: In a dignified ceremony, the Tiger Division today honoured Lt Col Sharak Dev Singh Jamwal (Retd) on his 100th birthday, recognising his remarkable service and contribution to the nation.
The General Officer Commanding (GOC) Tiger Division, along with the Commander Chenab Brigade, Lt Gen Rakesh Sharma (Retd), President JKESL, and senior veterans, visited Lt Col SDS Jamwal’s residence to extend greetings and felicitate him on the historic milestone.
Born on August 13, 1926, in Jammu, Lt Col Jamwal was commissioned into the 7th Light Cavalry in 1946 during the final stages of World War II.
His distinguished career saw active participation in the Burma Campaign, the 1947-48 Indo-Pak War, the Liberation of Goa in 1961, and the Sino-Indian War of 1962.
As Squadron Commander of C Squadron, 7 Cavalry, he inducted tanks across the high-altitude Zojila Pass, leading to the recapture of Zojila and the relief of besieged Ladakh.
The event, which included a ceremonial cake cutting, highlighted the Army’s deep appreciation for his unwavering commitment, honour, and service, while reinforcing the tradition of respecting veterans whose sacrifices inspire future generations.
