JAMMU, Aug 8 : Senior National Conference (NC) leader Rajesh Gupta today launched an anti-gattu (Chinese Manja) awareness campaign, urging immediate action to curb the illegal sale of the deadly kite string ahead of Raksha Bandhan and Janamashtami.
Speaking on the occasion, Gupta reiterated his demand to LG Manoj Sinha for a strict and comprehensive vigil against the sale, supply and storage of Chinese Manja.
His appeal comes in the wake of the tragic death of Sahil Kumar on July 26, who was fatally injured by the banned thread on the Jammu Akhnoor flyover.
Terming such incidents as “murders by negligence,” Gupta said, “Those who profit from selling this dangerous thread are trading in pain and death. Strict raids, tight enforcement and exemplary punishment are the need of the hour.”
