KATHUA, Aug 7: The artists of Kathua belonging to various cultural and artistic organizations today called on Member Legislative Assembly Kathua, Dr. Bharat Bhushan and apprised him of the issues faced by them.
The deputation was led by Bunty Almast , Dr. M. L. Bagga and Chandan Kumar, the empanelled singers, folk performers, artists playing music instruments like Flute, Dholak, Guitar, Harmonium etc.
They apprised MLA that the Government has launched various campaigns and schemes to promote girl education, prevention of drug abuse, wild life conservation, environmental preservation and promotion of communal harmony. They lamented that departments usually avail the services of outsiders and the local artists and musicians suffer. They added that matter may be taken up with the concerned departments to promote local artists while launching promotional campaigns of flagship programmes. They added that the Information Department must provide them identity cards and also increase the quantum of honorarium. The issuance of identity cards will ensure that they can perform professional duties hassle free and the increase in honorarium will help them feed their families as presently they are paid Rs. 500 per day which was fixed 20 years ago and doesn’t cover even the transportation cost of the artist.
Dr. Bharat Bhushan, MLA Kathua assured to take up all these issues with the concerned Departments.
