Tapentadol consignment seized

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Aug 6: Drugs Control Organization, Jammu & Kashmir, today seized a consignment of 4,400 Tapentadol tablets being clandestinely transported via a private courier service.
Acting on specific intelligence and routine surveillance inputs, a team of Drugs Control Officers – Amit Mahajan and Amit Bali – carried out a targeted inspection at a courier facility under the supervision of Assistant Drugs Controller (HQ) J&K, Pankaj Malhotra. During the inspection, a suspicious parcel was identified and examined in the presence of authorized personnel.
The parcel was found to contain 4,400 tablets of Tapentadol 100 mg (TD NERV-100), a centrally acting opioid analgesic known to be misused by antisocial elements for intoxication. The consignment was being transported without valid documentation and was immediately seized under Form-16 as per the provisions of the Drugs & Cosmetics Act, 1940.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the consignment had been routed into Jammu & Kashmir from a neighbouring state and was likely meant for illegal distribution within the region. Authorities are now verifying consignee details and tracing the parcel’s origin and intended destination to facilitate further legal action.
