Thieves decamp with gold, silver ornaments worth Rs 16-17 lakh

JAMMU, Aug 6: Unidentified thieves decamped with gold and silver ornaments worth around Rs 16-17 lakh from a house at Qasim Nagar area here.
House owner Raj Kumar said the theft might have occurred on July 20, the day when none of his family members were home.
The incident came to light on August 4 when they noticed the locker of an iron trunk, where the jewellery was stored for years, had been broken open.
Police said the stolen items include gold weighing around 12-14 tolas and silver ornaments, with a total estimated value of Rs 16-17 lakh.
A police official said CCTV footage is being analysed as part of the investigation based on a written complaint from the victim.
No FIR had been registered in the case at the time of filing this report.
