RAJOURI, Aug 1: The police seized 17 bovine animals in Kalakote area of Rajouri district late last evening.
Sources said that police teams from Police Station Kalakote, under the supervision of SDPO Kalakote Surinder Mohan, intercepted two Tata Mobile vehicles bearing registration numbers JK11E-7174 and JK02AD-0393, both of which were moving from Kalakote towards Rajouri.
Upon seeing the naka party, the drivers of both vehicles abandoned them at some distance and fled the spot. During inspection, 10 bovine animals were found loaded in vehicle JK11E-7174, while seven in vehicle No. JK02AD-0393.
Both the vehicles have been seized, and all 17 bovines were safely rescued. In this regard, a case FIR No. 58/2025 under Section 223 BNS & 11 of the PCA Act has been registered at Police Station Kalakote. Further investigation is underway to trace the absconding accused and uncover the broader network involved in bovine smuggling.
