NEW DELHI, July 31: Varinderjeet Singh, Chairman of the National Sikh Front (NSF) and a senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, concluded a three-day visit to the national capital, holding intensive discussions with top political and organizational figures.
He met Union Minister of State for the Prime Minister’s Office, Dr. Jitendra Singh; BJP national spokesperson, R.P. Singh; Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) senior leader, Bhupinder Kansal; and former Union Minister, Surinder Singh Ahluwalia.
Varinderjeet Singh highlighted various issues plaguing the Sikh community, pressing for immediate reforms to restore equity and dignity. He expressed deep concern over the neglect of the Punjabi language, which remains excluded from Jammu & Kashmir’s educational and administrative frameworks.
He also highlighted the absence of Sikh representation in the BJP’s J&K Pradesh Committee, describing it as a significant barrier to the community’s voice in regional governance.
The harassment of Sikh students over their adherence to the five Kakaars, such as the Kirpan and Kada, in schools, colleges, and competitive examinations drew sharp criticism. Varinderjeet Singh called for robust policies to safeguard Constitutional guarantees of religious freedom.
He also reiterated the longstanding demand to name the Qazigund -Banihal Tunnel after Baba Banda Singh Bahadur, the revered Sikh warrior whose legacy of resisting oppression remains un-recognized.
He also called for revisions to NCERT textbooks to correct distortions of Sikh history and renewed efforts to deliver justice for the 1989 anti-Sikh riots victims.
He further demanded the protection and maintenance of historic Sikh Gurdwaras in Jammu & Kashmir.
Dr. Jitendra Singh emphasized the BJP’s support for the Sikh community, citing initiatives like the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor and GST exemptions for langar services.
