UDHAMPUR, July 31: The residents of village Thanot, Batal Baliyan, in Udhampur East held a protest against the bad condition of road and erratic water supply.
Pawan Khajuria, senior political leader who had contested last Assembly election from the Udhampur East constituency also visited the area along with his organization activists and participated in the protest.
Large number of local people including men women and children participated in the protest raising slogans in support of their demands. Pawan Khajuria while addressing the gathering said village Thanot is just 200 meters away from the National Highway and it is very sad that this village is in bad condition as it lacks basic facilities. The village has no proper road connectivity which is a cause of concern, he added.
The people earlier informed Khajuria that the road work was started, but left half way, without completing it. The condition of their village is worse than the far-flung areas. There is neither water nor road. In the name of road, there is only a difficult path to travel. From children to old people, sick and elderly people pass through this road and they face many hardships.
They said school children face problems during the rainy season while walking on this road. The people said that if there is a wedding ceremony in the village, they have to get the road repaired themselves. The bad condition of the road is worrisome for the people. The elderly and sick people have to face more difficulties and it becomes very difficult to take the sick people to the hospital for treatment.
The protestors said that many times they had informed the administration of their problems but no one paid a heed.
Pawan Khajuria, assured them that he would make every possible effort to get the problem solved by taking up the issue with higher ups in Government.
