SRINAGAR, July 30: Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) national general secretary Tarun Chugh today accused the Omar Abdullah-led Government of failing to deliver on its election promises and misleading the public to divert attention from its poor performance.
Speaking to reporters in Baramulla after addressing a rally, Chugh said the National Conference (NC) leadership had promised monthly financial aid for housewives, free gas cylinders, and one lakh jobs, but none of these commitments were fulfilled. “Did anyone get Rs 5,000? Did any household receive monthly gas cylinders? Not a single promise was kept,” he said.
He urged Omar to give a detailed account of his Government’s nine-month tenure. “Omar, don’t talk about the issue. The people of Jammu and Kashmir are demanding answers,” Chugh said.

He also reiterated the Centre’s commitment to restoring Statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, stressing that both the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister had made public assurances.
On the issue of terrorism, Chugh warned that those responsible for killing Indian citizens would not be spared. Citing Operation Sindoor, he said India has made it clear that terror infrastructure in Pakistan will be destroyed wherever it exists. “Trade and terror cannot go together. Blood and water cannot flow together,” he added.
He accused Pakistan of attempting to destabilize trade, education, and communal harmony in Jammu and Kashmir. “We will not allow any of its conspiracies to succeed,” he said.
Responding to NC MP Agha Ruhullah’s remarks describing tourism as a “cultural invasion,” Chugh said such statements echoed Pakistan-sponsored propaganda. “When NC leaders call Indian tourists cultural invaders, they insult the warmth, hospitality, and inclusive identity of Kashmiris,” he said.
He emphasized that tourism brings livelihoods and connectivity, and only those stuck in outdated politics oppose it. “This regressive mindset reflects NC’s desperation. They can’t digest the fact that Kashmir is healing and prospering under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership,” he said.
Chugh also criticized the NC for its role in allegedly rigging past elections, which he said eroded public trust and fueled decades of unrest. “The NC repeatedly manipulated democratic institutions and silenced real voices, enabling Pakistan and terror groups to exploit Kashmir’s pain,” he said.
He slammed the party’s silence after the peaceful conduct of the holy Muharram procession in Srinagar after over three decades. “It was a moment of cultural and religious pride for the Valley, but the NC couldn’t acknowledge this positive change. Their silence shows political gains matter more to them than people’s traditions,” he said.
Chugh further criticized the NC for not acknowledging the high voter turnout in the recent Lok Sabha elections. “The people of Kashmir defied separatist threats and stood with democracy. NC has no moral right to sit in Parliament while disrespecting the system that elected them,” he said.
Referring to the Pahalgam tragedy, Chugh said the NC resorted to divisive politics instead of standing with the victims. “This is not opposition-it is betrayal,” he said.
Rejecting the term “cultural invasion,” Chugh said the people of Kashmir have moved beyond politics of fear and dynastic blackmail. “Kashmiris want jobs, peace, and dignity-not slogans from 1975,” he said.
Praising the resilience of the people, he added, “their response after the Pahalgam massacre, their rejection of separatist calls, and their faith in the Constitution show one thing-Kashmir has changed. and NC cannot handle it.”
