JAMMU, July 22: Kiran Wattal former Commissioner JMC and chairman Vishaw Kashmiri Samaj has appealed Lt. Governor, Manoj Sinha of ordering a probe into illegal felling of 200 year old trees in the forest area of Karan Nagar that led to soil erosion and land slide in the area, causing damage to residential houses while the VIP road in the area is also at the verge of danger.
Wattal alleged that some musclemen in collision with concerned Department cut the 200 year old trees that were a protection to the land in the area from soil erosion. He said after these trees were cut there was a land slide causing damage to residential houses.
Wattal said he will also file a FIR with police seeking action against the people causing damage to heritage forest.
He said his house and other property has been damaged in the landslide causing a loss of over 15 lakh rupees. He said despite objecting felling of trees in the area the authorities failed to protect the forest in the area from musclemen.
