
Karra, Mir, Bhalla among several briefly detained

JAMMU, July 20: JKPCC President Tariq Hameed Karra, AICC General Secretary G A Mir, Working President Raman Bhalla and several other senior leaders alongwith workers were taken into preventive custody during a massive protest by Congress party here today.
As the large number of senior Congress leaders and workers, led by PCC Chief and others took out protest march from Congress headquarters at Shaheedi Chowk towards Rajbhawan, the police swung into action and tried to stop the march leading to scuffles between cops and the protestors.
Some protesters breached the police barricades and pushed their way towards Residency Road and Raghunath Bazar. The situation came under control after all the Congress leaders and around 200 workers were boarded in the police buses and taken to DPL Jammu.

A large number of Congress workers had assembled from all over province as the party had already announced the scheduled march today to Rajbhawan as part of intensification of its struggle for restoration of Statehood “Hamari Riyasat Hamara Haq” but the police had deployed heavy contingent and erected barbed barricades to stop the protestors from marching ahead of Shaheedi Chowk, near the Congress HQ.
Talking to reporters, Karra lashed out at the Modi Government for delaying and denying legitimate demand of full Statehood, promised to the people of Jammu and Kashmir by the Centre on multiple occasions and directed by the Supreme Court.
He said Congress party is determined to fight for the rights and aspirations of the people and for the identity and status & to safeguard the rights to land, jobs and natural resources.
AICC General Secretary & CLP leader G A Mir criticized the police administration for stopping the peaceful march in Srinagar and Jammu today. He said that Central Government has promised Statehood on number of occasions in the last six years but now it is silent causing unrest amongst people.
