JAMMU, July 14: To ensure better civic amenities and maintain sanitation amid the ongoing Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Dr Devansh Yadav, conducted a surprise inspection of various locations across Jammu city.
Recognizing the surge in pilgrim footfall, Dr Yadav visited key locations, including Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas, Vikram Chowk, Jewel, Kacchi Chawni, Parade area, Karan Nagar, Amphalla, Rehari and Narwal — areas witnessing high activity during the Yatra. The inspections focused on evaluating sanitation standards and preparedness of the civic teams.
During his visit, Dr Yadav personally assessed street cleanliness, public sanitation facilities and solid waste management infrastructure. He interacted with sanitation workers and officials, checking attendance records and on-ground performance. Expressing displeasure over the absence of several staff members, he directed Health Officer Dr Vinod Sharma to initiate strict disciplinary action against erring employees to ensure accountability.
The Commissioner also reviewed the deployment of civic resources, including waste collection vehicles, treatment facilities, and manpower. He emphasized the need for heightened vigilance, especially in sensitive and crowded areas and instructed teams to be responsive to emerging sanitation needs.
Addressing media during the inspection, Dr Yadav reaffirmed JMC’s commitment to maintaining a clean and hospitable environment for both residents and pilgrims. He urged citizens to support the effort by refraining from littering and responsibly disposing of waste.
“This is a crucial spiritual period for the city. Ensuring hygiene and order is not just our duty but a shared responsibility,” he said.
Dr Yadav was accompanied by Joint Commissioner, Health & Sanitation, Abdul Star; Health Officer, Dr Vinod Sharma; Chief Transport Officer Zone I, Talat Mahmood Khan; Chief Transport Officer Zone II, Dharamveer Singh and other officers from the Health and Sanitation wings.
