SRINAGAR, July 9: A three-storied residential house was damaged in a fire that raged this afternoon in the densely populated Khanyar area of Srinagar.
According to officials, the fire call was received around 2:31 pm, and fire tenders were swiftly dispatched to the spot.
“Several fire tenders from different areas were moved immediately. Although the fire was brought under control quickly, the attic of the house was damaged,” the officials said.
They lauded the cooperation of locals, which helped in the swift containment of the blaze.
“The area is densely populated, and had the fire not been brought under control immediately, it could have spread further,” they added.
The residential house belongs to three brothers and as per the locals, the fire caused extensive damage to the top floor, while parts of the lower storeys were also affected.
Fire and Emergency Services personnel, assisted by local residents and police teams, managed to control the flames before they could spread further, locals said.
While the cause of the fire is under investigation, officials said that no injuries were reported in the incident.
