REASI, July 7: Residents from several villages of Pouni Block staged today a strong protest at Zero Morh in Talwara area against frequent and unscheduled power cuts that have been disrupting their daily lives.
Scores of villagers, including women, gathered at the protest site and raised slogans against the district administration and the Power Development Department (PDD).
The protestors alleged although electricity poles were installed in their areas months ago, wiring work was left incomplete, resulting in repeated power outages, especially during peak hours. They claimed that PDD officials had earlier assured them of starting the pending work, but no action was taken.
Later, PDD officials reached the protest site and dropped wires & other necessary material, assuring the villagers that the work would commence from tomorrow.
The protest was also joined by National Conference (NC) workers led by zonal president Tariq Bhat and zonal vice president Dev Raj.
