Three bovine smuggling attempts foiled in Samba, 5 smugglers held

SAMBA, June 28: Police in Samba district today claimed that they have foiled three bovine smuggling attempts in the region by arresting five smugglers and rescuing from their possession 40 animals in different operations.
In one of the operations, a police official said, two trucks were intercepted near Mansar Morh, Samba for checking.
On search of the vehicles, he said, 22 animals transported without valid permission were rescued and two bovine smugglers, identified as Feroz Ahmed Lone of Bogham tehsil and district Kulgam and Mohammad Asif Mir of Buchoo, district Anantnag, were arrested.
Accordingly, they were booked in case FIR number 171/2025 under sections 223 BNS, 11 PCA Act registered at Police Station Samba, he said.
In another operation, he said, a team of Police Station Samba intercepted two trucks at Mansar Morh, Samba and rescued 24 animals crammed inside the vehicles in a cruel manner. These animals were also being transported without permissions, the police official said.
He said, two smugglers, identified as Shahid Ahmad Malik of Bunpora, tehsil and district Kulgam, and Shokat Ali Sheikh of Village Wanpora, district Anantnag, were arrested in this operation, who were accordingly booked in case FIR number 172/2025 under section 223 BNS, and 11 PCA Act registered at Police Station Samba.
Meanwhile, two animals loaded inside an auto load carrier, were recovered by another police team from Mansar Morh area.
A smuggler, identified as Harpal Singh of Ramgarh, district Samba, was arrested in this operation, the police official said.
He was booked in case FIR number 174/2025 under sections 22 BNS and 11 PCA Act registered at Police Station Samba, added the police official.
The arrests were made under the overall supervision of SSP Samba, Virinder Manhas.
All the cases are being investigated further, he said.
