SRINAGAR, June 26: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) today arrested a Mineral Supervisor of the Geology and Mining Department in Srinagar, for demanding and accepting a bribe of 15,000.
According to an official statement from the ACB, Basharat Habib, Mineral Supervisor of Lasjan-Rajbagh Sector was arrested following a written complaint alleging that he had demanded a bribe in exchange for permitting the lifting of minor minerals, specifically sand.
“After discreet verification confirmed the allegations, an FIR under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended), was registered at Police Station ACB Srinagar. A trap team was immediately formed and laid a successful trap,” ACB said, adding that Habib was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe of Rs 15,000 from the complainant in the presence of independent witnesses.
“The accused was taken into custody,” said an ACB spokesperson, adding that further investigation is underway.
