UDHAMPUR, June 24: In a major crackdown on narcotics, Jammu and Kashmir Police in Udhampur District have arrested an inter-state drug kingpin from Himachal Pradesh in connection with a decade-old drug trafficking network.
A police official said that the accused, Dhani Ram of Salooni, District Chamba, Himachal Pradesh, was arrested in FIR number 45/2025 registered under the NDPS Act at Police Station Chenani.
He said technical, financial, and oral evidence linked Dhani Ram to large-scale drug trafficking activities spanning over ten years.
In a first-of-its-kind action in an NDPS case, section 111 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been invoked against him due to his continued involvement in organised narco-crime, he said.
Meanwhile, in another action, a team from Police Post Tikri intercepted a suspicious man on foot coming from the Jammu side during routine naka checking.
Upon search, 300 Pregabalin capsules were recovered from his possession.
The accused, identified as Mohammad Benia of Tharad, Balli in Udhampur, failed to provide any valid reason for carrying the drugs and was taken into custody for further questioning.
The matter has also been reported to the Assistant Drug Controller, Udhampur, for appropriate action.
Jammu and Kashmir Police have reiterated their commitment to eliminating drug abuse and dismantling organised criminal networks in the region.
