PUDUCHERRY, June 23: The Union Territory of Puducherry bagged the Union Health Ministry’s award for best performance in implementing the ‘tobacco-free youth campaign 2.0’ during 2024-2025.
A release from the Directorate of Health and Family Welfare Services of Puducherry on Monday said that “the Union Territory of Puducherry has been recognised at the national level for its exceptional performance in marking yellow lines to prevent the sale of tobacco products near educational institutions, and for conducting enforcement drives in collaboration with the Police Department against the sale of tobacco products.”
Special arrangements were also made in medical and dental colleges, as well as in primary and community health centres across the Union Territory, to generate awareness.
The release added that the territorial government “is fully committed to continuing its efforts to ensure that Puducherry achieves the goal of becoming a completely tobacco-free Union Territory.” (PTI)
