SAMBA, June 23: Unidentified thieves broke into a house in Reian Khanwal Village near the International Border (IB) in Samba during Sunday-Monday midnight and decamped with gold jewellery weighing around 15 tolas and Rs 50,000 in cash.
According to owner of the house, Jyoti Devi wife of Sonu Kumar, two people of the family were sleeping in the courtyard and one was inside when the burglars made a hole in the wall from the field side and entered the house.
“They searched cupboards and other storage spaces without waking the residents and fled with the valuables,” the family members said.
The theft came to light in the morning when the family found the house ransacked and accordingly reported the matter to the police.
On the basis of the written complaint, police have registered a case under the relevant sections of the law and started further investigation into the matter.
