SAMBA, June 20: Police in Ghagwal area here foiled a bovine smuggling attempt by rescuing five animals from the clutches of the smugglers and seizing a vehicle used for the illegal transportation of the animals.
During routine vehicle checking at National Highway naka Tapyal, a Mahindra Pickup load carrier (PB09AN-8190) coming from Kathua side was intercepted, a police official said.
During checking of the vehicle, he said, 5 animals crammed inside the vehicle in a cruel manner were recovered.
Accordingly, he said, a case FIR number 64/2025 under section 223 BNS, 11 PCA Act was registered at Police Station Ghagwal and further investigation taken up.
The entire operation was conducted under the overall supervision of SSP Samba Virinder Manhas.
