JAMMU, June 19: Jammu and Kashmir Police have successfully traced and reunited two missing persons with their respective families in different areas of the district.
A police official said in the first case, on June 17, 2024, an unidentified man believed to be mentally unstable was found wandering in the jurisdiction of Police Station Gharota.
“He was brought to the police station for assistance. During the inquiry, it was established that the man hailed from Karnataka,” he said.
After continuous efforts, the police identified him as Nishanth, son of Dathathreya, a resident of 2nd Cross, Chikkamandya, Karnataka, the police official said.
It was further confirmed by the police that his family had lodged a missing person report about a month ago at their local police station, he said.
Accordingly, the Karnataka Police were informed, and on June 19, Nishanth’s mother, Chandrakala, reached Police Station Gharota, added the police official.
According to him, after due verification, Nishanth was safely handed over to her.
In another case, he said, a woman from District Jammu was reported missing on June 18, 2025.
A missing report in this context was lodged at Police Station R.S. Pura, and a special police team was constituted to trace her, he said.
Acting swiftly and using technical inputs, the police located the missing woman and after completing all legal formalities, she was reunited with her family, the police official said.
