KOURI (REASI), June 19: Residents of Kouri and surrounding villages today staged a strong and peaceful protest, demanding an official halt of the Vande Bharat Express near Kouri – in close proximity to the iconic Chenab Bridge, the world’s highest railway bridge.

According to retired Captain Rajinder Singh, a scheduled halt of the Vande Bharat Express would not only benefit thousands of people in the hilly and remote areas of Reasi district but also promote tourism, boost the local economy, and support strategic mobility in this sensitive border zone.
Former Sarpanch Sansar Singh, who participated in the protest, appealed to the Railway Ministry to take immediate action to include Kouri as a scheduled stoppage for the Vande Bharat Express.
Former Panch Om Prakash warned that if the demands are not addressed promptly, the protest will intensify in the coming weeks and continue until the demand for a railway station and Vande Bharat halt is fulfilled.
Notably, the residents have already submitted a formal memorandum to the district administration two days ago, and today’s protest was a follow-up action to press for an urgent response from the Railway Ministry.
