Alliance with NC will only favour PDP: Vakil

SRINAGAR, July 7 : Former Minister and member AICC Abdul Gani Vakil today said that the prevailing ground and political scenario in Jammu and Kashmir has got a sea change since Parliament election, consequently, situation neither favour nor allow forging any pre-poll alliances at this juncture in the State.
He said that high command must pick threads from here and ascertain and examine the ground realities. He cautioned that any type of pre poll alliance of Congress with any regional party will prove counterproductive and will become a reason for damaging the poll prospectus of the Congress Party in forthcoming elections in the State.
Mr. Vakil said that people of Jammu and Kashmir have categorically rejected the Congress-NC alliance in the State and said that intention and desire of the electorate must be respected at any cost. He said that limiting alternatives to people will only strengthen the regional forces, who for the vote bank politics exploit sentiments of the people either on regional or religious pretext.
Mr. Vakil while reiterating his appeal to command high command said that electorate deserves more options in forthcoming Assembly elections and forging of alliance with any party means demeaning the grass root level of the party which makes transferring of votes amongst alliance partners impossible. He said that if alliance is forged between NC and Congress, it will only benefit BJP in Jammu and PDP in Kashmir.
He urged high command to take into confidence functionaries of the party not a few Ministers and said that party functionaries constantly remain in touch with grass root workers but Ministers find it hard to concentrate on party and remain confined to their respective constituencies. He said that taking care of personal interests will not be in the interest of the party and said that functionaries can rightly judge the mood of the workers and the people. He reiterated that limiting options to the people especially in Kashmir valley will be beneficial to regional parties. Vakil also welcomed the decision of the Congress high command for constituting Antony Committee and adopting introspection strategy.
