Locals blame police for shielding cop involved in drug peddling

JAMMU, June 16: Locals in Jammu’s Chakrohi area have blamed police for shielding a cop involved in drug peddling.
According to them, police recently raided a cop, Aman Bazala’s residence in Chakrohi Village falling under the jurisdiction of Police Station RS Pura and recovered 2.05 Kilograms of Ganja-like-substance from his home, but dropped his name from the FIR.
They claimed that police even shared a concocted story with the media that the consignment was recovered from two individuals—Gourav Bhagat and Avinash Kumar—from around a Government school in the locality.
“This was a fabricated story since the consignment was recovered from the residence of Aman Bazala, a border battalion cop posted in Srinagar, in the presence of several villagers. But when we watched news reports and read in the newspapers, we were surprised to know that cop Aman’s name was missing from the list of accused,” a Chakrohi resident told the ‘Excelsior’.
He believed this (removing cop’s name) was done at the behest of a senior police officer, who is a relative of the cop.
When questioned about dropping the name of the “actual accused” from the FIR, SHO RS Pura, Ravi Singh Parihar said, “We haven’t dropped his name. It will be added on soon.”
Asked why he was not named in the FIR initially when the consignment was allegedly recovered from his residence only, he said, “The accused is absconding right now. Adding his name can affect the investigation.”
To another question about why the police shared a different story with the media that the consignment was recovered from around a Government school, the SHO said, “I was not present at the time of the recovery. I don’t know about this.”
Locals, however, claimed that the recovery was made in the presence of SHO itself and demanded proper investigation into the incident by senior police officers to fix accountability in the working of police.
