ACB nabs Patwari taking bribe

POONCH, June 13: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) today trapped and arrested a Patwari in Mandi tehsil of Poonch district for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5000.
Mohammad Jameel, Patwari Halqa Dhara, tehsil Mandi, district Poonch, was arrested for allegedly demanding bribe from a complainant in lieu of providing him with the attested copies of the Khasra Girdawari of the latter’s land at Village Dhara, an ACB official said.
According to him, the complainant had applied for the attested copies of the Khasra Girdawari online on April 26, 2025, but the accused was demanding the bribe for issuing the same.

Unwilling to pay, he said, the complainant approached the ACB and a discreet verification confirmed the bribe demand.
Accordingly, a case under FIR number 02/2025 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act was registered at ACB Police Station Rajouri.
Followed by this, the ACB official said, a trap team was constituted, and Jameel was caught red-handed while accepting Rs 5,000 as bribe from the complainant in the presence of independent witnesses.
He was immediately arrested following due procedure, the ACB official said.
Later, he said, a search was also conducted at his residence in Poonch.
Further investigation is underway, he added.
