Vehicle used in bovine smuggling attached

JAMMU, June 10: In a major action under the new criminal laws, Jammu and Kashmir Police have attached a vehicle used in bovine smuggling after it was found to be purchased through crime proceeds.
As per a police official, the vehicle-a Mahindra Bolero pick-up (JK14H/8740)-belonged to one Gafoor Ali of Dhamma Village in Majalta area of Udhampur district.
He said at the time of the incident (bovine smuggling), the vehicle was being driven by his brother Liaqat Ali, also from the same village.
According to him, the case was registered at Police Station Jhajjar Kotli under FIR number 9/2025, invoking Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
During the investigation, he said, police found that the same vehicle had been used multiple times for smuggling bovines.
“Both the owner and the driver are repeat offenders. It was also confirmed that the vehicle was bought using money earned through illegal activities,” he said.
After following all legal procedures and getting court approval, the vehicle was attached under Section 107 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), he said.
The operation was carried out by the SHO Jhajjar Kotli under the supervision of SDPO Nagrota, SP Rural Jammu and SSP Jammu.
