JAMMU, June 6: National Secular Forum (NSF), University Unit, organized a program in Jammu University Campus on the 135th birth anniversary of freedom fighter Gopinath Bordoloi.
Ankush Abrol, Provincial Joint Secretary JKNC was the chief guest while, Dr Vikas Sharma, Coordinator Jammu District and Zonal Secretary JKNC presided over the event. Dr Sukhdev Singh, State President NSF, was the guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion Ankush Abrol appreciated the initiative taken by the University unit of NSF to remember the birth anniversary of those who have contributed for the country.
Dr Vikas Sharma threw light on the life history of Gopinath Bordoloi.
Gopinath Bordoloi was born on 6 June, 1890 in Assam. He actively participated in the Non-Cooperation Movement and was imprisoned in the year 1922. After leaving office as the Chief Minister of undivided Assam in 1939, he was put in prison twice until being freed in 1944. In the 1946 Assembly elections, he was re-elected as the Chief Minister of Assam. For his contributions to the realm of public affairs, he received the Bharat Ratna ceremonially in 1999.
