The examination, held from 10 am to 2 pm, saw approximately 18,000 candidates appear across 28 centres spread across Srinagar and Jammu.
According to the university, this year’s Undergraduate Entrance Test (UET) marks a significant milestone, with SKUAST-K receiving a record 25,000 applications from 19,600 candidates for its undergraduate courses.
“This figure represents an all-time high for the institution,” it stated.
The increased interest aligns with a trend of substantial growth in student enrolment at SKUAST-K, which has doubled from 500 to 1,000 over the past two years, the university added.
This stands in contrast to the broader higher education landscape, where many other colleges and universities in J&K are facing challenges in filling available seats.
The examination was conducted at 24 centres in Srinagar and four in Jammu.
Srinagar’s test venues included prominent institutions such as the University of Kashmir, NIT Srinagar, Government College for Women MA Road, SP College, SP School, Amar Singh College, Degree College Bemina, Government Girls School Amira Kadal, DPS Athwajan, B.Ed College MA Road, Government Women’s College Nawakadal, Government Girls Higher Secondary School Nawakadal, Islamia College Hawal, Government Higher Secondary School Soura, RP School Malabagh, and Kashmir Harvard, among other schools.
During the entrance examination, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai, Registrar Prof. Azmat Alam Khan, and Controller of Examinations Prof. K.N. Qaisar visited various test centres across Srinagar city to oversee the smooth conduct of the process.
SKUAST-K has recently diversified its academic offerings by introducing new job-oriented courses tailored to meet evolving industry demands, the Vice-Chancellor said.
These include B.Tech. in AI in Agriculture, B.Sc. Biochemistry, B.Sc. Microbiology, and B.Sc. Economics and Data Science.
It is pertinent to mention that SKUAST-K has also witnessed an expansion in its student demographic, now attracting candidates from every state across the country.
“This development positions the university as a national institution, moving beyond its traditional regional focus,” it added.
