JAMMU, May 29: Doctors Association of Jammu (DAJ) has urged Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to direct the registration of an FIR against Doda MLA Mehraj Malik over alleged derogatory and threatening remarks made against doctors at Government Medical College (GMC) Doda.
In a formal representation to the Lieutenant Governor, the Association condemned the MLA’s statements, which reportedly included threats to “drag and undress” doctors — including a female medical officer — and accused him of using abusive language that has created a hostile work environment for healthcare professionals.
The DAJ stated that such conduct by a public representative not only endangers the safety and dignity of medical personnel but also erodes public trust in health institutions. The Association further alleged that the MLA shared names of individuals with the intent to disrupt the functioning of the hospital and intimidate staff.
According to the DAJ, this is not an isolated incident. They claimed that Mehraj Malik has a history of threatening and abusing Government officials, including bureaucrats and medical professionals.
In addition to demanding an FIR, the DAJ has sought security arrangements for doctors at GMC Doda and called for a medical board to assess the MLA’s mental fitness to hold public office.
The Association has warned of statewide agitation and a possible shutdown of health services across Jammu and Kashmir if immediate action is not taken.
“We stand firmly with the doctors of GMC Doda. If justice is denied, we will not hesitate to suspend healthcare services throughout the Union Territory,” the DAJ said.
