Promotion of Sanskrit language

Sir,
This refers to the editorial,’ Back to Basics’ (DE, June29, 2014).The editorial has beautifully highlighted the role and importance of Sanskrit language in the past and in the modern times. It is said that Sanskrit is the mother to almost all languages across the world and the Sanskrit grammar is considered superior to the grammars of all other languages and Panini ,the greatest grammarian the world has ever produced.  Sanskrit is called ‘Devbhasha’-the language of Gods.It is believed that this language was spoken long before it was put to written form. Thus,no language other than Sanskrit can boast of a possession so ancient and lofty.Even the Western philalogists admit that Sanskrit Alphabet is most methodical and scientific, its elements classified first into vowels and consonants and then within each section, according to the manner in which the sound is produced. The great Sanskrit scholar Franz Bopp says,”At one time ,Sanskrit was the one language spoken all over the world”.It is in view of its use and historical importance that this classical language should be accorded the status of Heritage language and efforts made to promote it.
Sanskrit is the repository of the Indian wisdom and knowledge acquired over the years. But this language has not been accorded a rightful place in India after independence. The result is that our modern generation has been deprived of the supreme knowledge, joy and wisdom that they could have gained by reading their scriptures and immortal works composed in Sanskrit and which would have helped in building their character strong and noble. Therefore, it would be in the fitness of things if the Union and the State Governments take steps to promote this language which is the pride of India.
Yours etc…..
