Srinagar, May 28: Police today arrested four drug peddlers in Sopore and recovered codeine bottles and heroin-like substances from their possession.
According to officials, the arrests were made following specific inputs received from the public.
Acting swiftly, police launched a series of well-coordinated operations that led to the seizure of narcotics and the apprehension of the suspects.
In the first operation, Sopore Police arrested a drug peddler identified as Rameez Ahmad Mir, son of Ghulam Hassan Mir and a resident of Adipora Sopore.
He was found in possession of 13 bottles of a codeine with tampered labels at Adipora Crossing, police said.
In a separate operation at Malpora-Warpora Crossing, another suspect, Waseem Ahmad Mir, son of Ghulam Hassan Mir also a resident of Adipora Sopore, was arrested with a brown sugar.
Additionally, at Chijhama Crossing, two individuals-Javid Ahmad Bhat, son of Mohammad Subhan Bhat, and Rayees Ahmad Baba, son of Bashir Ahmad Baba, both residents of Marzipora-were apprehended while transporting codeine-based substances in a truck bearing registration number JK05E-4845.
The vehicle used in the commission of the crime has also been seized, police said.
Police said that cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at the respective police stations, and investigations are underway.
