Speaking to reporters here after inaugurating the State of Art Diagnostic labs, Oncology Services Unit at JLNM Hospital, the Minister said a proposal has already been formulated in this regard, and several SDHs have started offering dialysis services.
“The aim is to ensure that patients do not have to travel long distances for dialysis and that this service is made available at their doorsteps,” she said.
Sakeena said the Government is committed to addressing the shortage of doctors across Jammu and Kashmir, especially in far-flung areas that have long been facing difficulties.
“Doctors who were attached to various hospitals in Srinagar and Jammu—while there were shortages in remote areas—have now been detached and posted where they are most needed,” she said.
The Minister emphasized that the Government is working to ease the public’s difficulties, pointing out that much had been neglected over the last 10 years.
“We are actively addressing the issues people are facing. There were numerous vacancies in the health department, and concerns over the non-availability of doctors. The Chief Minister recently issued appointment orders for 309 doctors, of whom 109 have been posted in far-flung areas to address the shortfall,” she said.
Sakeena Itoo added that the Government has taken significant steps in recent months, though more still needs to be done.
“We are working to ensure better facilities in health, education, and other sectors. We remain connected with the people and are listening to their needs,” she said.
Sakeena inaugurated State-of-the-Art Histopathology Laboratory, a dedicated Oncology Services Unit and an advanced Electroencephalography (EEG) Lab at Jawahar Lal Nehru Memorial (JLNM) Hospital Rainawari here.
MLA Zadibal, Tanvir Ali Sadiq; Director Health Services Kashmir, ADC Srinagar, CMO Srinagar, Medical Superintendent JLNM Hospital, Heads of different specialities and other concerned officers were also present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Health Minister emphasized on the importance of accessible, quality healthcare services, stating that the Omar Abdullah led Government is committed towards strengthening of healthcare facilities and infrastructure across Jammu and Kashmir.
“This initiative is not just about upgrading infrastructure, but having accessibility to people with timely and accurate diagnosis, improving treatment outcomes and bringing specialized medical care closer to their vicinities”, she stated.
The Minister further highlighted that this new Histopathology Lab, equipped to provide in-depth tissue analysis, will be crucial for early and accurate detection of diseases, particularly cancers.
She added that introduction of Oncology services will also support patients with consultation, diagnosis, and treatment planning under a specialized framework while EEG Lab will bring advanced neurological diagnostic tools to the hospital, enabling better assessment and treatment of brain-related disorders.
