Drug peddler held with heroin

SRINAGAR, May 26: Police today arrested a drug peddler in Kupwara and recovered heroin from his possession.
According to authorities, a team from Police Post Bazar, deployed at a checkpoint in Geerhatchi, intercepted a suspicious person who attempted to flee upon seeing the naka party but was tactfully apprehended.
He has been identified as Faisal Ahmad Sheikh son of Mushtaq Ahmad Sheikh, resident of Kupwara, police said.
During the search, police said, heroin- was recovered from his possession and was subsequently arrested.
Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 149/2025 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Kupwara.
“Preliminary investigation reveals that the accused has been actively involved in the supply and distribution of narcotics, particularly targeting the youth in Kupwara town and the Hyhama belt, thereby contributing to the rise of drug abuse in the region,” police said.
