SAMBA, May 23: Police in Samba and Bari Brahamana areas here claimed they have arrested two bootleggers and recovered 65 bottles of illicit liquor from their possession.
Acting on reliable information regarding the sale of illicit liquor, a party of Police Station Samba under the overall supervision of SSP Samba Virinder Manhas intercepted a motorcycle (JK02AF-4621) at Manohar Gopala near Hanuman Temple and recovered 30 bottles of desi liquor of 750 ml each from the possession of the rider identified as Jasvinder Singh of Pangdour, tehsil and district Samba, a police official said.
According to him, the biker was indulged in selling of illicit liquor to the general public in the area.
As such, the accused has been booked in case FIR number 150/2025 under section 48(a) of the Excise Act registered at Police Station Samba and further investigation started.
In another similar incident, he said, another team of Police Station Bari Brahamana arrested a person identified as Vinod Bhardwaj of Chhattisgarh at present Bari Brahamana and recovered 35 bottles of JK Special Whisky of 180 ml each from his possession.
The accused, according to him, was selling the illicit liquor to the general public at Labour Chowk Bari Brahamana.
The accused has been booked in case FIR number 75/2025 under section 48(f) of the Excise Act registered at Police Station Bari Brahamana and further investigation started, he added.
