Flash-flood hit Ramban people demand rehab package

RAMBAN, May 21: Hit by flash floods triggered by cloudbursts about a month back, the people of mountainous Ramban district demand a rehabilitation package to restart their lives.
Jagdeep, a local whose 10 shops were damaged in the natural calamity informed that all those who visited them only offered assurances but nothing concrete has been seen so far.
He still hopes that some package from the Union Government might be announced soon to restart their lives.

Another businessman, Latif Giri, a hotelier remembers that it was April 20 when his hotel was hit by flash floods putting him to a loss of Rs. 1.5 crore as extensive damage was caused to his property.
“Debris was filled in my hotel complex and only by yesterday it has been cleared after I engaged many labourers on my own for the job,” he claimed adding that his vehicle and other things in the hotel were also destroyed and the repair work of the building was underway.
A local leader Suraj Singh thanked the Deputy Commissioner Ramban for visiting the affected areas and appealed to the PM Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for some rehabilitation package.
Congress leader, Firoz Khan said though it has been a month by now when the disaster had hit Ramban but so far no relief package has reached them barring Rs. one crore announced by the local MLA from his CDF.
“We were happy that after the flash floods CM and others visited the area including opposition leaders,” he said adding: “Water supply, roads etc in Ramban have been shattered and the economy there has been destroyed which needs an immediate rehabilitation package.”
