RAJOURI, May 18: As part of its ongoing drive against bovine smuggling, the police in Rajouri foiled two separate smuggling attempts in Kandi and Kalakote area, leading to the rescue of seven bovine animals and seizure of two vehicles.
Reports said that in the first incident a naka was established by a police party from Kandi led by Inspector Abarar Khan in the same area and during checking a Tata Mobile bearing registration number JK11E-0531, coming from Kotranka towards Rajouri was intercepted.
The driver fled the spot abandoning the vehicle. During checking the vehicle was found loaded with five bovine animals being smuggled illegally towards the Kashmir Valley without the mandatory permission from the District Magistrate. In this regard FIR No. 50/2025 U/S 223 BNS & 11 PCA was registered at PS Kandi and investigation has been initiated.
In a similar incident, the police party during a surprise naka at Potha led by SHO Kalakote Inspector Deepak Katoch, intercepted a Mahindra Pickup vehicle bearing registration number JK02AK 6181. Howeverm the driver tried to flee and eventually abandoned the vehicle on the road. During Search two bovine animals were found being transported illegally. In this regard a Case FIR No. 38/2025 U/S 223, 324(3) BNS & 11 PCA was registered at Police Station Kalakote.
