UDHAMPUR, May 15: Police team rescued a 14-year old girl, who was being married by her parent to a 27-year old widower in Pattangarh area under the jurisdiction of Police Station Latti.
The rescue was carried out by Police following a tip-off by the Child Helpline and an FIR has been registered in this connection besides shifting the minor girl to Child Care Institution.
Reports said that despite prior advisory cum warning by the Police, the marriage of this minor girl was allegedly solemnized. As soon as the matter in this regard came into notice of the Police and Child Welfare Committee declared the girl as child in need of care and protection, a Police party led by SHO Latti, Sandeep Kumar rescued the girl and shifted her to Child Care Institution.
According to Police, an FIR under the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006, has been registered in this connection against all the responsible parties.
