Srinagar, July 11: The independent MLA Abdul Rasheed today made an unsuccessful attempt to take hundreds of stray dogs inside the Srinagar’s Civil Secretariat.
Angry over the increasing attacks by stray dogs in his Langate constituency, Rasheed had warned the Government of dire consequences for not taking stern action against the dog menace. He had threatened to shift stray dogs in the courtyards of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, other Ministers and bureaucrats.
The MLA has claimed that his constituency witnessed 41 dog bites on July 3. The MLA had caught 60 dogs from his constituency to disembark them in Civil Secretariat. However, the state police foiled his attempt by seizing the vehicles carrying dogs near Sangrama area in district Baramulla.
Police said there were also two dogs in Rasheed’s car. He and his supporters were detained by police. Police handed over 5 dogs to the Srinagar Municipal Corporation.
