KATHUA, May 3: In a significant development aimed at improving transport connectivity in the region, Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Kathua, Dr Bharat Bhushan, met the Managing Director (MD) of Jammu and Kashmir Road Transport Corporation (JKRTC), Rakesh Kumar Sarangal, and sought immediate operationalization of the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) Kathua.
During the meeting, Dr Bhushan expressed concern that despite assurances made on the floor of the Assembly, the ISBT Kathua remains non-functional, causing considerable inconvenience to the residents. He pointed out that people are compelled to travel to Pathankot or Jammu to board inter-state buses bound for New Delhi and other major cities.
The MLA further stressed that inter-state buses currently bypass Kathua altogether, compounding the transportation woes of the local population. He urged the MD to ensure that the long-awaited ISBT is made operational at the earliest.
Responding to the MLA’s concerns, the MD JKRTC assured that the issue will be treated as a priority and reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to operationalizing the ISBT soon.
Dr Bhushan also advocated for the restoration of the JKRTC bus service between Kathua and Pathankot, which was discontinued during the COVID-19 pandemic. He highlighted that resuming this route would greatly benefit daily commuters and travelers.
Later, the MLA held discussions with Director of Urban Local Bodies, Manisha Sareen, to address civic issues concerning the Municipal Council Kathua and the Municipal Committees of Lakhanpur and Nagri.
