JAMMU, May 2: The Swadeshi Jagran Manch (SJM) a nationalist economic movement has officially launched a region wide campaign urging citizens of Jammu and Kashmir to boycott e-commerce giants like Flipkart and Amazon.
Talking to reporters here, today along with other members of the Manch, Ajay Singh Chandel, the provincial contact head of the Manch has appealed the people of Jammu and Kashmir to come forward and make this campaign a mass movement. “This is not just protest. It is the declaration of economic independence. Every purchase from the local vendor helps sustain a family, supports the regional economy and strengthens the cultural fabric of our society,’’ he added.
He urged all people to completely abstain from on line shopping during the ten day campaign period launched by the Manch and instead turn to local markets and neighbourhood stores. Consumers are encouraged to explore the rich variety of Swadeshi (indigenous) products from clothing and electronics to groceries and handicrafts and in doing so , contribute meaningfully to the Swavalambi Bharat (self reliant India) mission.
He said the ten day long campaign also included awareness drives, distribution of pamphlets , street corner meetings and social media outreach to educate citizens about the long term economic and cultural consequences of unchecked globalisation and the dominance of foreign companies in the Indian market.
