“I don’t think relations will ever improve unless the army goes. The people of Pakistan want friendship with India-people, not the hierarchy there. When a people’s Government comes, I am sure there will be peace between India and Pakistan,” he said.
Commenting on the current situation following the Pahalgam terror attack, the NC President said both countries are preparing for the battlefield. However, he also acknowledged global efforts aimed at de-escalation.
“There are efforts being made around the world to prevent war and find a solution. Those who carried out the attack-and those behind it-must be brought to justice,” he said, adding, “But how successful the world will be in doing so, only God knows.”
He described Pakistan as a “failed state” and accused it of indulging in such acts instead of working to improve conditions in the country.
“They want people to stop thinking about their current state. But this will have disastrous consequences if war breaks out, as both countries possess nuclear weapons.”
On the announcement of a caste census by the Union Cabinet, Dr Farooq said it was not a new demand and that people have long been calling for it.
“There is nothing wrong with it-at least we will get to know how many are Brahmins, how many are Muslims and others,” he said.
